Joint Student Council - First Meeting

On Wednesday 6th December the Joint Student Council held their first shared council meeting in Antrim Grammar School. This was used as an opportunity for the representatives to get to know one another. During this meeting, office bearers were elected for each school (chairperson, vice chairperson and secretary).

They then brainstormed ideas for names and a shared ethos statement for the council to take back to their separate schools and the Year 8s voted on which one they liked best. Antrim Grammar School decided upon “Stand Together. Achieve More.”

Mossley West Trip

On Wednesday 7th February the Joint Student Council went on a trip to Mossley West. They met with Councillor Paul Hamill (Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough for 2017-18).

The 18 representatives were shown around the Round Tower Council Chamber, getting to sit in the seats of locals councillors and had a Question and Answer session with the Mayor.

Our representatives got a great insight into life as a local Councillor developing knowledge on local council agendas, Stormont's impact on local councils, duties and responsibilities as Mayor, as well as finding out how to become a local representative at council level.
