This course will teach you about the foods that your body needs for growth and health.
You will cook many different foods as you learn about the benefit of the nutrients in each one.
You will also be learning about cooking for yourself and family members, and how to make meals healthier, more nutritious and low in fat.
There is also an opportunity to learn about other cultures and their food
Four different units of work will be studied during the half year course:
“A staple Diet” - A close up look at foods from the breads and cereals food group.
“Moove it!” - A close up look at foods from the milk and milk products food group.
“Hamburger heaven” - A look at meat cookery and creative hamburger design.
“Munch around the world" - An investigation into foods from different regions of the world.
Hygiene and Safe Practice.
Each unit of work has credits attached which count towards your Middle school Diploma. There are 10 credits available in this course in total.

Entry Requirements: Enthusiasm for Te Reo
Leads to: Level 1 Te Reo Māori
This is a full year course that covers all aspects of Te Ao Māori. Students will be immersed in Te Ao Māori, focussing on te reo (language), tīkanga (protocol), karakia (prayer), waiata (songs) and haka (dance).
Students will be taught the structure of te reo Māori whilst learning to speak in te reo Māori.
Learning and understanding whakapapa (genealogy) is an integral part of learning te reo Māori, which will allow students to research their family history.
Kapa haka.will be compulsory for students at this level, which will aid in their learning te reo Māori.

Entry Requirements: Previous instrumental experience is helpful but not a necessity. Students will need to participate in performances in class in order to pass this course, however all reasonable efforts will be made to make sure that this is a supported and comfortable experience for students.
