NZ Area Schools Coaching Clinic and Tournament 2024

The New Zealand Area School Association supports a regional coaching clinic which allows senior students the opportunity to be selected for the elite Central North Island Area Schools team and progress to the ultimate goal of representing in at New Zealand Area Schools level.
CENTRAL NORTH ISLAND COACHING CLINIC - TE AWAMUTU 8-10 April
Each year, Onewhero Area School joins other Area Schools from the Central North Island region for a Coaching clinic in Te Awamutu. Dates this year are 8-10 April. We invite applications from students to be part of this exciting opportunity. They will receive expert coaching for two days, followed by trials to have a chance of being selected for the Central North Island Are Schools team that will play the other regions in the Area Schools National Tournament, 1 game per day, held from 7-11 July (school holidays) in Te Awamutu as well this year. We usually have a group of students selected for this, and some go on to make it in the North Island Team and even the National team. Students considering attending need to be of a high standard of play at their chosen sport (max 2 codes) and be competing in those sports. Sports coached at the clinic and played at the tournament are:
- Rugby (boys 15 and girls 10)
- Netball
- Volleyball
- Basketball
- Ki-O-Rahi
- Football (7 aside)
The clinic and tournament are open to year 11-13 athletes, and will be accompanied to the clinic as well as the National tournament by our sports coordinator.
Cost for the clinic in Te Awamutu (8-10 April) will be around $260 per student. Cost for the tournament in Te Awamutu (8-11 July) is yet to be determined but is likely to be around $590. If selected, students will also need to purchase a CNI Area Schools Hoodie as part of the Central North Island Team Uniform.
