BASKETBALL INFORMATION 2024: Exciting changes ahead!

Exciting changes to Basketball within Onewhero.
Basketball is experiencing an increased following throughout NZ, with more children showing an interest in playing than ever before.
After discussions with our dedicated coaches, parents and Franklin Basketball, it has been decided that Onewhero Area School will not be offering basketball for 2024 and instead basketball will transition across to an Onewhero Basketball club, affiliated to Franklin Basketball.
What are the benefits?
Teams offered for U9’s, U11’s, U13’s, Junior and Senior Secondary School teams (Subject to player numbers & coaches). Interest for Future adult teams
Basketball will be offered for Term 1 to Term 4
Club structure will allow for students from other schools and within the community to join
All trainings will be at OAS Gym on a Tuesday afternoon - with times where possible suited to age groups & other sport trainings.
Club will be administered by a small local committee
OAS will provide playing uniforms, equipment and use of the school gym
Coaches will be supported by Franklin Basketball, offering regular coach the coaches sessions
Assistance with Grant applications and funding opportunities through Franklin Basketball
We envisage that the change to a club environment will ultimately strengthen Basketball within OAS, assisting our students to continue to participate in the AIMS Games and school based tournaments including the NZ National Secondary School tournament in the near future.
While we realise this will be a significant change for some of you, we would ask that you please continue to support Basketball within Onewhero and with us all working together we will provide more opportunities for our tamariki.

To move forward to the Onewhero Club administration, we would appreciate it if you could please complete the below “Expressions of Interest Form”. Once returned, we will forward your details to the club committee and they will be in touch with further details for Term 1 2024.
