Track and Field has an event for everyone!
The track events include runs (100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter, and 1,600 meter), four person relays (800 meter and 1,600 meter), and 100 meter hurdles. The field events include shot put, discus, high jump, and long jump. Coaches feel middle school is a good opportunity to try competing at every event. We attend several Track and Field meets during the season, some of them require athletes to participate in both a track and a field events. Some schools limit the number of events a student can participate in, and some limit the number of students coaches can put into an event. Event placement can often appear unequal because of the entry restrictions at a meet and the popularity of the events but coaches work hard to give athletes full exposure to all events.
Sign up for Track and Field occurs a short time before the season starts in spring. A letter with more information about the season, including dates for track meets, was sent home to all students who are signed up for track. A schedule of Middle School track meets updated by our Athletic department can be found on the BWSD Athletics webpage. Below is a calendar of practices and meets updated by Mr. Paquette. Select the +GoogleCalendar icon at the bottom right to download the calendar into your own Google Calendar. Select an event to see where it will be located. The calendar will be updated with changes due to weather or other unexpected events. Coaches will also use Remind to send out track updates and information.
The following are videos which show techniques in several of the events.
