The requirements of GCSE courses have changed vastly over the past few years with more emphasis being placed on final examinations and subject knowledge. Through a lot of research and review of the new examinations Haven High Academy has decided to implement an approach that supports students with their home learning called Knowledge Organisers.
Students will be given a pack of knowledge organisers each large term that will contain all of the core knowledge that needs to be learnt that term through home learning. Students will be required to make notes and will be frequently tested on their understanding to provide and support will be provided as required.
We feel following this approach will provide you with the tools you need to achieve your goals within the Academy.
Students are to complete the subjects that are listed each night. Notes will be checked the next morning by form tutors and mastery tests will be conducted by teachers throughout the week.
For Example: Class of 2023 are required to complete notes on Maths/Geography Monday night with the notes being checked Tuesday morning.
In KS4 (Yr 9,10 &11) students are required to complete lessons based on the options they have each day. When the option states the Period this means whatever lesson the student has at that period the student will have to complete that night.
For Example: Class of 2021 on a Wednesday are required to complete notes on English and the lesson they would have had Period 6 on that day.
EXTRA: We want to encourage our students to be independent learners. Students can choose a subject to complete as part of their notes, we suggest students complete notes on a subject they are currently struggling with.
CONSOLIDATION: This is reflection time for our students to produce improved notes and to focus on their upcoming week. We recommend that students complete 2 pages over the weekend. In KS4 students also obtain additional homework off their classroom teachers so this may be a perfect time to complete these activities.
