Practice Tools:

  • Metronome
  • Smartmusic-Interactive practice program that allows you to play along with accompaniments, and it will assess your performance. To use the program, you'll need to enter your class code, which is posted on the Smartmusic page of the band website.
  • JW Pepper-Listen to recordings of your concert songs by typing the name of the piece into the search bar in the upper-left corner. Click the small play button to start the recordings.
  • Bandmate Tuner -Free download for iOS and Android devices. Very helpful for accuracy because it displays the note you are playing. Can also be used as a tuner.
  • Practicesightreading.com -For rhythm practice. Instructions:
    • Select a time signature, level, and length.
    • Practice the song with a metronome.
    • Click the play button to check your answers.
  • Ningenius App-iOs app to practice note names and fingerings.
    • Download the "Games for Kids" version.

Music Theory:

Note Reading:

  • Musictheory.net- customize the notes you want to practice by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner.

Interval Identification:

  • Musictheory.net -Visaul analysis. click the gear icon in the upper right corner, and then turn off "Require Quality."
  • Musictheory.net -Click the gear icon and select the intervals being worked on in class.

Key Signature Identification:

  • Musictheory.net- Customize the notes you want to practice by clicking the gear icon in the upper right corner.

Rhythm Dictation:

  • Teoria.com- Select a quarter note as the minimum value to start, then add more complicated rhythms as you improve.

Melodic Dictation

  • Teoria.com - To enter an answer, select a rhythmic value and type the name of the note on the keyboard.

Music Creation:

  • Flat -Web-based music notation program. All band classes will use this program for a composition program in the spring. Quickly join your class by following one of these links:
  • Chrome Music Lab -A variety of interactive ways to create music. Songmaker will be used to create accompaniments for the composition project in the Spring. Try it out here.
