The School Counselor

I became a school counselor in 2001 after earning my M.Ed in Guidance and Counseling from Loyola University Maryland.  I earned my undergraduate degree from Loyola as well, in 1996, where I majored in Psychology and minored in Creative Writing.  I have worked in the education field since 1996, beginning by teaching Organizational Psychology at Assumption University in Thailand.    While I had concentrated on counseling psychology and knew I wanted to help people as a career path, that two year experience inspired me to become a school counselor specifically.  I fell in love with teaching the practical aspects of psychology, and supporting my culturally-diverse students with their personal challenges, and future-planning.  This is what school counselors do every day!  And long before students are of college age, which means I get the opportunity to be proactive!  I know that all children have skills, interests, and talents that need to be nurtured so they can contribute to the world of work, and I regularly have such conversations with kids.

I have been a counselor at the K-12 levels and at the college level.  I just finished my 7th year at Creekside,  a very special place, and my 10th year in BVSD.  Before BVSD, I was a high school counselor in St. Vrain Valley School District for 7 years and a middle school counselor for 4 years in Baltimore County.  I recognize that school and early childhood can be stressful, and this motivates me to help; ensuring that students are ready for middle, high school, and beyond!  I have a particular interest in helping students cultivate their interests and strengths and discover how they relate to the world of work.

My passions include hiking, climbing, Transpersonal Psychology, writing and recording original music.  I love spending time with my wife and son in the inspiring state of Colorado, where I moved in 2005.  I am grateful to my parents for supporting my education and career path which began in the small coastal town of Madison, Connecticut.  I aspire to be the change I wish to see in the world.

Please feel free to contact me if you any concerns or questions about your student.  I am here to help!

the School Social Worker

Donna Wilson

I am the school social worker at Creekside. I am so happy to now have a full time counselor here at our school with this amazing website!  I have been a school social worker in BVSD since 2007. My work falls under the Special Education department. I received by MSW from Denver University in 1994, and my undergraduate degree in behavioral sciences from the University of Chicago. While in college I had my first job working with students with special needs. I worked in a private school for students with emotional and behavioral challenges. I was moved by the unique stories of these students and their families. I was inspired to watch them overcome barriers, and to see them grow and thrive. Later, I became a mother of a son with significant disabilities myself, which fueled my passion to work with students with disabilities and their families.

As a social worker I have worked in child protection, mental health, and early childhood intervention, as well as my current position in special education. My work has focussed on parent-child attachment, child development, and supporting inclusive environments. I am fluent in Spanish and enjoy supporting students and families in both English and Spanish. On the days when I am not at Creekside, I work at a bilingual school, Pioneer Elementary.

On a personal level, I have lived in Boulder for the last 26 years and raised five children here. My youngest is a student at Creekside and my oldest is a para-educator at Creekside! I am divorced and re-partnered. I love to hike, dance, and spend time with my family and friends.

I am excited to start my fifth year at Creekside. I will be supporting students, teachers, and parents, PK- 5th grade, with students who have social emotional IEP goals, behavior support plans through special education, or who are in the evaluation process. I will be working with our Intensive Learning Center, and resource special education team. I am also available to anyone who has questions about the special education process, or who needs community referrals for children with special needs. I like to invite peers to small groups and lunches with the students I work with, so I often get to know many students at Creekside. I love being a part of this community.

The Mental Health Advocate (MHA)

Kim Wright - Mental Health  Advocate (MHA)

The Role of the Mental Health Advocate: The Mental Health Advocates promote resiliency and academic success by providing intensive and comprehensive social/emotional support to the district’s higher needs students, as well as consultation to school staff.  They actively work with individual students, school staff, parents/guardians and the community to implement appropriate interventions by supporting each student and offering concrete assistance. They will frequently connect with parents to provide consultation and resources to support individual student needs.  Services are offered to students and are voluntary.

The F.R.S. Therapist

Tania Hollingsworth -

My name is Tania Hollingsworth and I am the School-Based Therapist for FRS at Creekside Elementary.  I am so pleased to return to such a wonderful community.

I meet with selected students regularly for a brief intervention of therapeutic support for the student, caregivers/parents and their teachers to help make functioning at school more manageable.  We often work on feelings identification, expression and emotional regulation while coming up with strategies to cope with life stressors.  Students are referred to FRS for therapeutic services by their teachers, Mr. Eric the school counselor, school staff and parents.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and have lived in Boulder for over 20 years.  I love spending time in schools with kiddos and am a huge advocate for mental health, wellness, and self-care to be able to connect with others.  I have worked with children, teens and adults in the mental health field for many years and continue to find hope and humor when working with kiddos.

I have 2 daughters that are also in BVSD, one in middle school and the other in high school.  I still clearly remember dropping off my oldest for her first day of kindergarten and wondering how I would manage as a parent of a school-ager.  I have a super sweet dog who I love to hike and always greets me with a tail wag and a cat who has quite the personality.  I love living in Colorado, being outdoors, spending time with friends and loved ones, growing flowers in my garden, traveling and seeing live music.

I am at Creekside Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
