In this classroom, we do language. But what does that mean, and why does it matter?
Consider language for a moment. Think about how many words you experience every day. Written words, spoken words, song words, thought words. Even in our dreams, we cannot escape them. Words create the world we know. Words have power, and in this classroom, we will learn how to wield them well and with intention. As readers, writers, thinkers, listeners and speakers, we will learn how to be responsible with and responsive to ourselves, our communities, our world.
As we read, write and think together, we realize that words allow us to explore big issues and ideas in our lives, so that we are ready to particpate in creating a safer, more positive world. Words invite questions, offer new ways of thinking, bend perspectives, cultivate empathy, imagine possibility and inspire our voices for things that matter.
So, let's show up, ready to do language together, ready to harness the power of words, ready to make the world a better place for all. Because, it matters. Your voice matters.
What difference will you make?
