Education involves the process of living in the present, understanding the past, and preparing for the future.
Education is a lifelong pursuit of learning and sharing with others. Behavioral changes reflect learning when there is personal discovery of knowledge based upon meaningful relationships to persons, concepts, and the environment. Hence, middle level education should seek to assist students in clarifying and accepting responsibility for their personal values and beliefs. During the middle level years, a student undergoes significant physical, social, intellectual, and emotional change. Thus, middle level programs must be unique in design, diverse, and individualized to address the needs and characteristics of middle level students; developing a positive sense of self, developing empathy for others, and building confidence to engage the broader world. Clearly, this design calls for programming that supports inquiry, emphasizes teamwork, and encourages exploration.
What does joining the team entail:
The Nederland Middle School ski team is open to all BVSD students. We practice Mondays and Wednesdays in January and February, at Eldora from 2:00 till 4:00. Parents must provide their own transportation. Racers must be able to ski blues and blacks confidently. No racing experience necessary, we will provide that experience! No special equipment necessary; however, specialized race gear does make an athlete ski better. Gear can be rented here (we are not affiliated): Alpine Base & Edge . We have five day-long races in the season, on Fridays, and buses depart from Ned in the predawn darkness. There are no practices on days that school is cancelled due to inclement weather.
