We are so excited to kick off another year of Battle of the Books for students in grades 3-8. Please read below for information about the club's purpose, the commitments required, and the necessary permissions for your child to participate.
Battle of the Books (BoB) is a quiz bowl-style competition for students in grades 3-12. When students enroll in this program, they commit to working with a school team to read all of the books from the Battle of the Books list. The list includes six books of various levels of difficulty. Students can read the books independently, as part of a school group, or with an adult.
The goal of Battle of the Books is to provide opportunities for students to work together in a group for a common goal, expose students to award-winning pieces of literature, and encourage a high volume of reading both inside and outside of the classroom. Yes, it is a competition, but the purpose is to foster a love of reading!
There are no fees associated with this club. However, we ask that families try to acquire the books from the booklist on their own. Please let Mrs. Pischke know if you need assistance in acquiring the books.
This club meets during lunch every week or every other week. Students are expected to complete the reading on their own time and be prepared to discuss the books/practice trivia. I will email all students as soon as possible after collecting SIGN UP FORMS, and a meet/reading calendar will be sent. Sign up by Wednesday, September 24th!
*Books can be read out loud or with audio.
*Where to get books: public library, local bookstores, SORA
