Project Based Learning - Project Based Learning is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging, and complex question, problem, or challenge.
Every committee presents a challenge for students to work on collaboratively in order for them to complete the tasks.
Promotes involvement from a wider base of students and staff by giving them an outcome, choice, and a product that will be on public display.
Design and create a float for the Homecoming parade. Each grade is responsible for designing and building their own class float.
Requirements:
The float must incorporate and be a presentation of the assigned class theme
Judged on artistic merit, including visual communication
Responsible for finding their own driver, vehicle, and trailer.
Basic supplies will include wood, chicken wire, and tissue as portion of the design must be “pomped”.
Committee members will be float passengers and ideally dressed in costume to match theme.
Candy may be passed out, not thrown, during parade
The banner and gym decorations committee has responsibility over key items that will be featured the day of the assembly. Design and create your class decorations to be hung in the gym and revealed at the opening ceremonies of the assembly.
Requirements: Banners must include the following criteria:
Inventive presentation of class theme through decoration of class seating section in the main gym
A class banner will be hung in the gym and remain for the rest of the year. It will reflect the class theme and pride.
A smaller class banner will be connected to a PVC pipe. This banner is for the flag relay and use during class cheers.
Judged on artistic merit, including visual communication
Task #1 Class Cheer - create and teach your class a class cheer that will be performed by all members of your class during the pep assembly. The class chant is an original cheer with or without instruments for backup. It will be performed with floor leaders and the entire class participation.
Task # 2 School Song - Monarch currently does not have lyrics to the school fight song. Write the lyrics and teach your class the schol fight song that will be performed by all members of your class during the pep assembly.
Task #1: Choreograph and perform a class dance. The dance committee will be responsible for creating an original dance set to music of their choosing. The dance routine will be performed by the committee and should reflect the class theme, but does not have to include the audience.
Task #2: is an assigned dance that each class learns set to a popular song. A short song clip will be assigned to each class with a set dance move for the class to execute.
Task #1 Design the front side of a class t-shirt that will be given to members of your class to wear during the assembly. T-shirts should be hand drawn/created. NO TRADEMARKED DRAWINGS!!! The backside is reserved for our sponsors.
Task #2 - Create a class costume for your class members to wear. This must be ONE uniform costume that is worn on everyones head, wrist, or body.
Task #3 - Dress A Teacher for the Fashion Show Design and create a class-themed costume for your committee sponsor to wear in the faculty fashion show. Costumes must be imaginative and creative, one-of-a-kind fashion designs. The use of donated, borrowed, and recyclable materials is encouraged.
Overall: Throughout the the week of homecoming/assembly there will be different competitions that require class coordination. Competitions will require the committee to organize coaches, participants, and practices prior to the event.
Task #1 - Assembly games will be played on the day of the assembly. Recruit members of your class to participate in each of the following games.
Task #2 - Trivia Night will be held and every class will have at least one team designated to compete on the evening of the event.
Task #3 - Power Puff (football) & Buff Tuff (Volleyball) games will be held the week of homecoming. Powderpuff game follows the general guidelines of flag football and volleyball and features participants who are female gender identifying for football and male gender identifying for volleyball in each grade.
Design and decorate your designated class hall. Halls must be decorated to incorporate class homecoming theme
Freshman = upstairs or downstairs of “x” (outside library or counseling)
Sophomore = main A-hallway, downstairs
Juniors= main C-hallway, downstairs
Senior = main B-hallway, downstairs
Requirements:
Decorations - it is recommended that the committee considers the use of objects that are affixed to surfaces as well things that can be freestanding
Resources - premade or already completed items can be included if class has funding to purchase them; however, overall scoring of the project will look at what was made and created by the class and committee as a priority
Portability - everything that is created should be considered for its mobility and ability to create early, storage, and then be put in place and moved
Overview: Each grade will have a team that is responsible for creating a class videos and manage social media accounts. The social media responsibility is to create class posts to communicate events, promote participation, and other class committees to communicate. Judging of the video and social media posts will be subjective (quality & creativity) with objective (follows & likes).
Task #1 - Social media posts will have a weekly assignment of what content to post and share.
Task #2 - Create an inspirational and creative video about your class theme to be shown during the Friday assembly. The video is an original creation that features the class theme, live action featuring students combined with graphics to make a multimedia video.
Task: Design and decorate your class window featured prominently at school. Grades will be assigned a set of windows at the main entrance of the building to decorate.
Windows - each grade will have a set of 2 windows on either side of the entry doors of the main courtyard that lead to either the gym or the auditorium side.
Task: Canstruction® is a unique international nonprofit organization which hosts competitions, exhibitions and events showcasing colossal structures made entirely out of full cans of food. After the structures are built the creations are on display to the public as a giant art exhibition. At the end of the viewing, all food is donated to local food banks.
Requirements:
Donations - each class will be responsible for getting the canned food goods and building materials required for constructing their display. This can be done by requesting food donation from a local grocery store, ask for parents to shop for cans or to donate supplies, recruit a corporate sponsor.
Build Out - the weeks before homecoming build-out begins. Your student teams should do as much prefabrication of template cutting or other special materials as required prior to the build out. If they have a chance to practice building in your class take that opportunity
Food Bank - at the conclusion of the homecoming week, all food donations will be donated to a local food bank.
