🍎 What You Need to Know
Our kindergarten program runs full day from 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM, soft start begins at 8:35 AM. The exception is on Wednesday’s the entire school has late start 9:45 AM (soft start 9:35).
Each day includes time for lunch and snack, along with plenty of movement and play both indoors and outdoors. Students will also participate in three Specials classes each week: Art, Music, and PE, on a rotating schedule.
At Meadowlark, every kindergarten teacher works with every student throughout the year, whether it’s for math, literacy, project-based learning, or enrichment activities. We collaborate closely as a team, and every child will be known, supported, and loved by all of us! That said, your child will be assigned one primary teacher known as their Huddle Teacher. This is the teacher they’ll begin and end each day with, spend the most time with, and who will be your go-to contact for communication and support.
🎒 What to Bring Every Day
✅ Full-sized backpack (must fit a folder or library book)
✅ Lunch (if your child is not eating the free school provided hot lunch)
✅ One large snack
✅ Change of clothes because accidents happen! (In a large ziplock, label everything)
✅ Water bottle (again, don’t forget the name label)
✅ Sun hat (optional)
🚫 No toys from home!
🔖 Did we mention to label everything?—backpack, lunchbox, water bottle, clothing, etc.
🎁 School Supplies
📝At Meadowlark, every child deserves to start the school year fully equipped and ready to thrive. That’s why our school asks each family to make a $90 supply donation per student each fall. These are made through Revtrak. Click Early Childhood and follow the prompts! If the payment is a hardship, please reach out to our Principal.
🚗 Morning Drop-Off
Kindergarteners will be dropped off at the Early Childhood entrance located at the front of the school to the right of the main doors. A Meadowlark staff member will be there to greet students and help escort them safely into the building.
👋 Please say goodbyes at the door—adults are not permitted beyond the entrance without a visitor pass. We know this can be a transition, but know we will take great care of them!
Doors Open- Drop-off begins at 8:35 AM (this is our “soft start” window and first bell)
Doors Closed- The doors will lock promptly at 8:45 AM (second bell/tardy bell)—please plan to arrive by 8:35
TARDY- If you arrive late, please check in at the main office, and a staff member will walk your child to their Huddle room.
After Monday, August 17th- If your child is comfortable with drop off procedures, feel free to use the hug and go line. Students will get out curbside- adults must stay in the vehicle.
⏰ Late Start Wednesdays
Across BVSD every Wednesday, school starts one hour later- at 9:45 AM, with soft start beginning at 9:35 AM. Note: Wednesday, August 12th is the only exception, it is NOT a late start day.
Fellow student contact information: As teachers, we are not allowed to share private contact information about other families. If you need to contact another family for playdates or party invites, just set up an account on Help At School. Click here to access.
Birthdays- Due to equity and allergies, the school district does not permit party treats or presents to be passed out on birthdays. We will make every student feel extra special on their day. (even summer birthdays!) Students cannot hand out invitations at school.
🚙 Pick-Up Info- In order to help make dismissal smooth, please be on time.
Doors Open: Dismissal is at 3:45 PM in front of the school (between the Main Door and Early Childhood Door). Kindergarteners are dismissed at 3:40 in order to have a safe transition before the big kids are dismissed.
Kindergarten Student Release- Students will be dismissed with their huddle teacher. Set a consistent spot where your child can see you so they know where you will be every day.
If using SAC: your student will be picked up from the classroom and taken to SAC
If your child rides the bus: please be sure they have their bus pass attached to their backpack, they will be walked to the bus by a school staff member.
📋 IMPORTANT: Fill out THIS FORM to let us know how your child will be getting home the first day of school, and all other days.
🧠 Social-Emotional Skills to Practice Before School Starts
Meadowlark focuses on the social-emotional well-being of every student. These skills will be reinforced throughout the school year, and it is still a good idea to practice/discuss them with your child before they start school.
Practice opening their lunchbox and snack containers without support.
Practice putting water in their own water bottle and screw on the lid.
Practice putting lunchbox, water bottle, snack inside their backpack.
Practice putting on and taking off their shoes independently.
Practice with your child asking for help when they need it.
Practice bathroom skills (wiping on your own) and washing hands independently.
*Teachers CANNOT help your child in the restroom.
