HOMEWORK

HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS

Homework is utilized as a tool to support and foster positive attitudes towards school along with time management and organizational skills.

READING:

Students are to read 15 minutes each night.  Depending on what phase of learning we are in, students will have the opportunity to bring home a new good fit book from school to read each night and students are welcome to read books from home for homework as well. We focus on finding a "just right book" for them. We utilize the "5 Finger Rule," shown below, to help guide us! Students can read one book, multiple books or even listen to a book being read to them to fulfill their15 minutes each night.

MATH:

We will send home Math Expression sheets at the beginning of each week. Students should do the front and back of one worksheet each day. FOr math extensions, BVSD recommends having elementary students practice their math skills on the digital educational, standards based, differentiated math platform called Zearn. Each student can access their Zearn account through their my.bvsd.org portal.

DAILY MATH QUESTIONS:

Daily math questions will be posted here. Each student is welcome to do this question in replacement of or in addition to Dreambox. Students who opt for this option will need to record their answer and show their work on a piece of paper. Please turn in all completed work on Friday mornings.

MONDAY:  Draw a picture that tells an unknown partner story. Then write the unknown partner equation for your story and solve it.

TUESDAY:  Draw Math Mountains and write equations that show all the partners for the total 9.

WEDNESDAY: Write a subtraction equation. The answer should be a number less than 7. Tell how you figured it out.

THURSDAY: Write an addition and a subtraction equation with 5 as the total. Tell what is the same and what is different about the two equations.
