Inside Lily Darrow's Historic Rookie Season
Lily Darrow entered the scene of the Fern Cornhole League as a late-added free agent, being able to sign with any team. Lily Wysuph, manager of the Ice Guards snagged Darrow to a reserve contract the day after she hit the market, and it turned out to be the greatest free agent signing in Fern Cornhole League history. Since Gus Glass was out for the Ice Guards, Darrow got the green light to start for her team in the 2023 Opening Night series, and her unbelievable campaign began that night. Darrow helped the Guards' beat the Pharaohs on Opening Night two games to one, and helped them go on to have a breaking 7-2 record in the regular season. She won her second Series MVP award in the 2023 Gold Semifinal against the Bobcats, and was a vital part in the Ice Guards beating the Pharaohs in four games to win the 2023 Championship Series. Darrow capped off her incredible season with winning the 2023 Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player, all while on a reserve contract!

The Pharaohs and Ice Guards open up the year on Opening Night, being played on May 26th! Some of the biggest series we have circled on the calendar is of course Pharaohs/Ice Guards, then Pharaohs/Mammoths in the second slate, and both series after the Trade Deadline are going to be significant as we have the biggest rivalry in FCL between the Ice Guards and Mammoths, and possibly the new-look Pharaohs and Bobcats battling it out in the regular season closer before the playoffs!

The original idea was each team plays each other three times a year, with each meeting consisting of three games. Although it was cut short in the end, there were still some great games.

When the season ended, the Buffaloes, consisting of leader Kellan Rosenfels and star Maddie Lindenmeyer, had the best record among the three teams at 5-1, officially crowning themselves the 2022 Fern Cornhole League champions.

Although the season ended in June, Maddie Lindenmeyer was elected the 2022 Most Valuable Player in April! Maddie had a remarkable season for her position in the league, becoming the youngest player to win MVP in league history, hanging with players twice her age, and coming up clutch for her Buffaloes to win the title. Maddie caps off her extraordinary 2022 campaign with a championship and the league's first-ever Most Valuable Player award.
