Be on time and prepared with your device charged. To help reduce bandwidth issues, close all materials and tabs that are not related to class. Make sure your tech is working well in advance and you're ONLY using your bvsd.org account.
Consider your surroundings and attire. Find a quiet space in your home with few distractions. Make sure you're wearing something appropriate for the virtual school day.
Keep your microphone muted unless you are speaking or unless Ms. Dykstra asks you to turn it on.
Take turns and do not interrupt others when speaking.
Use the chat area to let your teacher know that you want to talk or for messages that are on-topic for the discussion.
Use NOD hand signals: thumbs up = YES, thumbs down = no, hands by ear = can't hear, raise hand = have a comment.
Prioritize your time during the class and avoid multitasking. If you are paying attention, you'll get much more out of class!
Cameras on--it is much easier to communicate with you when we can see each other! If you turn off your video during calls for a minute, be sure that your profile picture is school appropriate and be sure that you are using the chat to respond to questions.
Self-advocate and communicate with Ms. Dykstra when you need something or don't understand. It is challenging for her to know your needs in a digital environment, so it is extra-important that you help her to know. Please use the chat (public) or email (private) to connect with her.
Note: Assume that ALL video meetings/lessons will be recorded. Please conduct yourselves in the same manner you would a normal lesson.
During breakout rooms, be responsible, respectful of your peers and be aware of the timing for returning to the large group. If you have questions, be sure to use Classroomq to contact Ms. Dykstra.
Be your best self, be gentle with peers, yourself and your teacher, and do your best to be flexible when things don't work as planned--we are all exploring a new frontier in learning and it can be challenging and frustrating. We'll get through this, and grow through this, together!
