Going into their classrooms and supporting them, teaching them directly in small groups and consulting with their teachers and specialists to meet their IEP Goals.
Recognizing their abilities and not their limitations. They are the person before the disability.
Creating equitable opportunities for our students to feel and be a part of our school and home communities-now and in the future.
Building independent, caring and compassionate individuals who are successful, lifelong learners.
We follow the school wide Habits of Mind and Coal Creek ROCKS. Respect- Own it- Cooperate- Kindness- Safety.
Behavior Support Plans are followed and implemented in the classroom and reviewed often by our team, classroom teacher and myself.
We know that “Kids do well if they can.”-Ross Greene. If we are seeing patterns of behaviors, we attempt to teach the skills or routines they need to do better.
The classroom teacher and I work closely together to support consistency and success.
We follow the general education grade level curriculum and supplement when needed, based on your child’s IEP goals and learning styles.
We have concentrated learning times and the lessons will be reinforced and practiced throughout the day.
K-1: Susan Barton Reading and supporting the new Into Reading program
2-5: Wilson Reading System is a stem off of Fundations that our students receive for core phonics in the classroom.
Bridges Math: Highly practice and manipulative based math program supplemented for those skills our students need additional focus on.
We use a wide variety of sources for social and emotional skills. Our base is Zones of Regulation where the students identify their feelings and what tools or calming strategies they can use to regulate themselves and be ready for learning.
We will use several materials from SocialThinking.com such as The Social Detective and Superflex, Whole Body Listening Larry, What is Expected and Unexpected.
Other materials are social stories written for your child, 5 Point Scale, Howard Wigglebottom storybooks, Yoga, calming videos from various authors.
