Wow, wow, WOW! Students did a fantastic job on their unit 1 test! I am so proud of their efforts. They will be sent home on Friday, 9/26. This week, we are beginning our unit 2 which continues our study of multiplication. In this section, students make sense of the area of a flat shape. They learn that the area of a shape is the amount of space the shape covers, and that area can be measured by the number of square units that cover the shape, without gaps or overlaps. Students explore this idea by tiling shapes, with squares, and counting the number of squares.

We have officially begun our second reading unit of the school year! Get ready for an exciting new unit all about the power of words! This module will take us on an adventure through reading, writing, and discovery. We'll be exploring how authors and poets use words to share ideas, express feelings, and even take us to new places. We’ll read a variety of texts, including:
Letters: We'll see how letters are used to share personal thoughts and connect with others.
Poetry: We'll dive into the world of poems to discover elements like rhythm and rhyme, and we'll explore figurative language (like metaphors and similes) to help us better understand what we're reading.
Memoirs & Fantasy: We'll read stories from different genres, like true stories from a memoir and imaginative tales from fantasy. This will help us see how words are used in different and creative ways.
Throughout the unit, your child will build their vocabulary and learn that words are not just for communication—they can be a tool for adventure, learning, and self-expression.
In writing, we're doing a fun writing activity that encourages students to think about their future! Our writing prompt asks them to think about their hopes and dreams and then write a letter to their future selves as grown-ups. This activity is more than just a creative exercise; it helps your child:
Practice Goal Setting: They'll think about what they want to achieve, whether it's a career, a skill, or a personal goal.
Strengthen Planning Skills: Students are asked to consider the steps they can take now to help them reach their goals in the future.
Develop Self-Reflection: This prompt encourages them to think about who they are today and who they hope to become.
We're excited to see their creativity and hear about the wonderful things they imagine for themselves. Please feel free to chat with your child about their dreams and aspirations at home!
This year we will be starting out with Social Studies. Our first unit of study is Our City Government. We will begin by looking at the services that our city provides to its citizens. Students will take a few notes on different community services and draw a picture of the service using Art Hub For Kids.
