Ms. Moeller and Ms. Turgel sponsor the 2025-2026 Centaur chapter of the National Honor Society.
Our CHS NHS chapter inducts members annually via application.
The application for all BVSD high schools is the same.
High achieving upperclassmen (juniors & seniors) with exemplary character and interest in community service are encouraged to apply for NHS. Students must meet the following minimum eligibility requirements:
A GPA of 3.75 (unweighted) and/or 4.0 (weighted)
Have completed a minimum of 10 hours of community service and/or work experience
Have experience that demonstrates integrity and character through leadership
Eligible students are invited to apply for membership in September of their junior and senior years.
Only rising juniors and seniors may apply to NHS, but there are steps you can take during your freshman and sophomore years to better your chances of being accepted. Here are some suggestions
Maintain good grades. All NHS members are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.75 (unweighted) and/or 4.0 (weighted)
Get involved in service activities in your community. Prior service is essential for your application to NHS, and you can start now!
Uphold the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, leadership, service, and character. A documented history of academic integrity infractions or character issues may negatively impact your application.
The most common reasons students are denied membership in NHS are:
alcohol or drug violations
incidences of academic dishonesty such as cheating or plagiarism
insubordination offenses with teachers resulting in a bad character assessment
lack of leadership, community service, or GPA does not meet the minimum
If you want to discuss the non-selection of your student, the first person to contact is the NHS Advisor. If you are dissatisfied with the answers you receive from the advisor, the next person to contact is the principal.
NHS Members must continue to maintain the NHS membership requirements for the entirety of their time in NHS. Those who do not meet the membership requirements will be put on probation for one semester. The expectation for students on probation is that they work to prove their standing in NHS through expected participation, improved grades, etc.
If no further offenses occur they will not lose their membership in NHS. If a second offense occurs, their membership will be terminated. Examples of offenses that result in probation are failure to participate in NHS meetings, cumulative GPA falling below 3.75 (unweighted)/4.0 (weighted), alcohol offenses, and academic dishonesty incidences.
