Tournament Golf

"There's golf and then there's tournament golf, and neither one resembles the other." ~ Bobby Jones

If you have played tournament golf, you know the above quote to be true. Going out and playing a round of golf with friends, family, or even just a random person you just met on the first tee can be fun, and good practice. However it is not the same as playing in a tournament. Tournament golf has a completely different feel to it, every stoke matters, there are no "gimme putts" no mulligans, and you have to know and follow every rule. Both types of golf are awesome, they can both be frustrating, exciting, and can fill you with every emotion imaginable, but they are still not the same.

The only way to get better at tournament golf is to play more tournaments. Luckily, there are many ways for you to play tournaments. Use the links below to find some tournaments that are right for you.

Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado

The Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado (JGAC), put together by The Colorado Section of the PGA and the Colorado Golf Association, has tournaments for players of all abilities. They have a 9 hole Prep Series (beginner junior program, and getting ready for high school golf), different age group series (more competitive than the Prep group) , and The JGAC Tour (the most competitive group, for some of the top golfers).

These tournaments run from mid April until late October. They are all over the state, and they have multiple tournaments every week.

Gold Crown Junior Golf

Gold Crown Junior Golf offers various tournaments in the spring, summer and fall for 6th - 12th graders. Golf Tournaments are held at various courses around the Denver Metro Area. These tournaments are often less competitive than the JGAC Series and Tour events, but are still offer competitive golf events for kids.

Rocky Mountain Junior Tour

The Rocky Mountain Junior Tour operates 2-day events in the Colorado, Washington, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico regions.

American Junior Golf Association

The American Junior Golf Association offers tournaments year round all over the country. These tournaments are a great way to test your skills against golfers from all over the country and world.

Mental Golf

"Competitive golf is played mainly on a five-and-a-half-inch course... the space between your ears. " ~ Bobby Jones

Golf is incredibly mental. To play good golf, you not only need to have the physical skills to hit the shot, but the mental strength to stay focused for 4 to 5 hours (sometimes more), the fortitude to not let yourself get frustrated or down after a bad hole or bad shot, and to not get overly excited after a good hole or shot. There are countless resources available to help with the mental part of golf, here are just a few that our coaches have found to be really helpful.

Dr. Bhrett McCabe

Dr. McCabe offers 1-on-1 mental golf training, as well as group and web seminars. He has worked with some of the top golfers on the PGA and LPGA tour and has resources to help you play your best golf. Our coaches were lucky and got to meet Dr. McCabe at the 2020 National High School Golf Association clinic in Orlando.

Fearless Golf: Conquering the Mental Game Book by Dr. Gio Valiante

If you have seen Broomfield Golf's Twitter or Instagram posts you have probably seen the hashtag #WhatsMyTarget. This comes from this book. In his book Dr. Valiante provides many different ways to conquer fear and anxiety on the golf course. It is impossible to constantly hit good shots when we are thinking of all the other things that can happen other that that shot. This book provides you with things that can really help during your next round.
