Welcome to Teen Choices!
This is a social-emotional intensive health course offered to 9th and 10th grade students. Teen Choices is one semester long (5 credits) and fulfills one of the following of BVSD’s Graduation Requirements: Health; Practical Experiences. In 2019, the Colorado General Assembly passed HB19-1032 which states that public schools that offer sexual health education must use a comprehensive curriculum. BVSD adopted comprehensive health curriculums for all grade levels in the summer of 2024. This ETR: HealthSmart Curriculum has been integrated throughout the course in alignment with Colorado’s Comprehensive Health Academic Standards. We also utilize multiple district-approved guest speakers in our classroom to ensure students maintain access to relevant information and community resources. Additionally, in 2023, SB23-023 was also passed to provide all Colorado students with CPR training in their health classes. I partner closely with our in-building nurse to deliver this training to students.
When students are enrolled in Teen Choices, families will receive more comprehensive information about the scope and sequence of curriculum. In overview, these are the units covered throughout the course: Self Exploration / Nutrition & Physical Wellness / Communication & Conflict Resolution / Healthy Relationships / Human Sexuality / Drugs/Alcohol & Addiction / CPR & Risk Reduction / Stress Management & Healthy Coping. Slides are linked below with a snapshot of our daily work. At the end of each unit, families can access some questions and resources to continue the conversation at home. Our curriculum also offers these “Time to Talk” Resources to support you in leading healthy conversations with your teen. When students are absent from class, they should utilize Schoology for full make-up information.
