Bigger, Faster, Stronger: Begins Now
As I am 3 months away from my first-year anniversary at Big Valley Christian, one thing is clear: the level of competition we face in the Mother Lode League and in the surrounding area is good. High school athletics in this area of California demand more than passion and participation; they require athletes to be
· Bigger
· Faster
· Stronger
The standard is high, and if we want to compete at a higher level each year, we must set the goal and prepare at the highest level.
That is why adding a strength and conditioning coach this year has been such an important step forward. Coach Hoffman has brought structure, accountability, and vision to our training programs. We are already seeing the results. Our spring sports athletes are consistently in the weight room, following plans designed to build strength, increase speed, and develop size. The growth is noticeable and in confidence and a competitive mindset.
The days of casually preparing the week before tryouts are behind us.
· Tossing a football around in July
· Playing pickup volleyball with friends
· Shooting baskets in the driveway the weekend before tryouts
· Taking a few swings in the cage before baseball begins
We live in an era where many athletes specialize in a single sport year-round. At a small school like ours, we do not specialize — and that is one of our strengths. Our student-athletes are multi-sport competitors who develop diverse skills, resilience, and leadership across seasons. But to sustain that advantage, we must be intentional about year-round development.
If our athletes aspire to compete beyond high school or simply want to contend for championships in our league, training must become part of their daily rhythm. Just as they train their minds in the classroom, they must train their bodies with purpose.
My call to action is I want to encourage our parents to partner with us in this effort. Let’s help our student-athletes carve out time before school, after school, and throughout the summer to grow physically, just as they are growing academically and spiritually.
When we commit to excellence in preparation, we honor God with our effort. As 1 Peter 4:10 reminds us, ‘Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.’ Our pursuit of strength is not merely about wins and losses — it is about stewardship. It is about faithfully developing the gifts God has entrusted to us and competing in a way that reflects discipline, humility, and gratitude.
While we are still completing this year, we also need to prepare for what God is going to do at BVC next year, let’s raise the standard together and steward well all that He has placed in our hands.

Athletic Sports Clearance
Are you considering coming out for a Spring season sport? Before you can participate in tryouts, you must complete the online clearance at Home Campus. Both parents and athlete will need to finish the online application and upload your current sports physical. Don't delay! We don't want you to miss out on participating in Lions athletics.
F.A.Q. (Frequently asked Questions) about Athletic Clearances
Want to play a sport at BVCS?
Complete online information and signatures on homecampus.com
Upload your current (within 1 year) sports physical onto homecampus.com
You do not need to turn in any paperwork to the office. It is all done online.
You will receive an email from Home Campus notifying you that you are cleared.
Home Campus does not alert the Athletic Office when you complete your portion of the clearance process.
Please note that we are the ones who manually mark student-athletes as “cleared.” If you do not receive an email confirming your clearance, that means you're not cleared yet.
If you have any questions or believe there’s an error, feel free to contact michellec@bvcs.org to check on your athlete's clearance status
Student-athletes will not be allowed to participate in tryouts, practices, or games until this information is complete and you are cleared.
Does the clearance from last year still work the next year?
No, it does not carry over
If the sports physical has not expired yet and I uploaded it last year, do I have to upload it again this year?
Yes, we cannot see the previous year's documentation. Each year is separate. You can upload that same physical from the previous school year if it is still valid.
If the sports physical expires mid-season, do we need a new physical?
Yes, we are alerted when it expires, and the athlete cannot continue to participate in any physical activity until a new one has been uploaded.
All the athletes on this wall have played 12 sports in their high school career: 3 sports per year for all 4 years in high school. This award is recognized with a lifetime Lions pass that gets you into all Lions home games for free for life and we put your name on this wall to celebrate you. Being a 12 sport athlete is no small feat and requires dedication to sport and to academics to manage that intense load. We are proud of all our 12 sport award winners and challenge you to be one too!
