GROWING HEARTS OF SERVICE THROUGH THE DO-A-THON: Living the BVCS Difference Through Service
Dear BVCS Family,
At Big Valley Christian School, we believe that learning goes far beyond the classroom. It’s found in the way our students serve others, love their community, and live out their faith in action. This month, we’re watching that belief come to life in powerful ways.
It’s Do-A-Thon season — one of our favorite BVCS traditions! Each fall, our students channel their energy and creativity into projects that make a tangible difference. Last year, Lions across preschool through 6th grade raised more than $90,000, with $9,000 given directly to local and global mission partners. This year, we’re setting our sights even higher with a goal of $100,000 for the BVCS IMPACT Fund, which strengthens our school’s five mission pillars: Academics, Innovation, Staff, Athletics & Theater Arts, and Tuition Assistance.
Each class is paired with a nonprofit mission partner that reflects our shared values. As students gather sponsors and serve through acts of kindness, 90% of funds raised will support mission-driven initiatives at BVCS, while 10% will go directly to their class mission partner — helping students understand the biblical principle of tithing and generosity in real time.
Through Do-A-Thon, students are learning that faith isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we do. From collecting coats to choosing personal service projects, our Lions are truly living the BVCS mission to impact the world for Christ.
As a Christian school, BVCS is more than a place of academic excellence — it’s a mission field. Every classroom, chapel, and playground moment is an opportunity for students to learn more about the love of Christ. Staff are Gospel-sharing disciple-makers, peers encourage one another in faith, and families unite in prayer and purpose. Whether serving across town or across the world, our students are learning that ministry begins right where God has placed them — here at BVCS.
In that same spirit of service, we’re partnering with the Modesto Gospel Mission to collect warm “Bundle-Up” items for local families in need. Collection barrels will be placed across campus, and we’re inviting every BVCS family to join in by donating new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, and blankets. Your generosity will help the Mission prepare for its Thanksgiving at the Mission outreach: a community event that serves hundreds of individuals and families right here in Modesto.
At BVCS, we talk often about being one school, one mission. These two initiatives, our Do-A-Thon and the Bundle-Up Drive, remind us that we’re more than just a school community. We’re a family of believers, united in purpose, raising up a generation of students who understand that faith and generosity go hand in hand.
Thank you for your continued partnership, prayers, and support as we build something great — not just for our campus, but for God’s Kingdom.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT RESULTS:
At Big Valley Christian School, we are committed to pursuing academic excellence through a biblical worldview. While private schools in California don’t take the state’s SBAC assessment, our students participate in the MAP Growth assessment — giving us a reliable way to compare student performance with local districts.
Last spring, BVCS students in Grades 1–6 demonstrated projected proficiency rates of 69.5% in English Language Arts and 57.6% in Math — far exceeding nearby district averages. (see chart that follows) These results affirm what we see every day: dedicated teachers, engaged learners, and a community that believes faith and excellence go hand in hand.
Let’s continue to celebrate our students’ hard work and the growth happening across every grade and subject!

We’re partnering with the Modesto Gospel Mission to collect “bundle-up” items for those in need this fall. You’ll see collection barrels around campus beginning next week—bring new or gently used coats, hats, gloves, and blankets to share warmth with our community.
Let’s help the Modesto Gospel Mission prepare for their Thanksgiving at the Mission outreach by giving generously!
