On Friday, October 17th, all 9th-11th grade students will be taking standardized tests. 12th grade will not be testing that day; 12th grade students are not required to attend as there will be no classes that day.
The following grades will be taking the tests specified below:
9th Grade - PSAT 8/9
10th Grade - PreACT
11th Grade - PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT)
This is an excellent opportunity for all students. Research has shown that test scores typically increase with each practice attempt. Students become more familiar with question framing, timing, and test structure. BVCHS also uses the scores to help develop curriculum and monitor college readiness.
Test Day Information
Testing day will run on a minimum day schedule. School will run from 8:20 AM - 12:00 PM. No class instruction will take place on that day as teachers will be assisting with the proctoring of exams. To avoid disruptions to the testing environment, we will not be calling students out of class. Please do not request for your student to be released early. If there is an emergency, we will contact the proctor directly and your student can be released at one of the scheduled break times.
This is a free service provided by BVCHS. There is no cost to you for these exams. You can help prepare your student for success by making sure your student has a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast the morning of October 17th. Please send your student to school with a water bottle and snack. Students should also bring homework to work on if testing concludes early. Each testing room will be a study hall opportunity for students who complete their test prior to 12:00 PM. Please encourage your student to do their best work and take these exams seriously.
PSAT Related Assessments
These 9th and 11th grade assessments will be completed digitally on student Chromebooks. Digital testing readiness checks will be completed during the school day before the exams to ensure all Chromebooks are set up for testing.
Please ensure your student brings his/her Chromebook and charger to school on Friday, October 17th. This is critical for them to be able to complete their test. If students are borrowing a school Chromebook, Mrs. Poole will be in contact with them directly in advance.
There are calculators built in to Bluebook, which is the testing app students will be using to complete their exams. However, students can also bring their own calculator if they so desire.
For approved calculators, please visit: https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/digital/what-to-bring-do/calculator-policy
If your student is experiencing any technical difficulties the day of testing, Mrs. Raingruber and Mrs. Poole will be in the office to troubleshoot any potential tech issues.
PreACT Assessment
This 10th grade assessment will be completed by pencil and paper. Pencils will be provided in each testing room. If students desire to bring their own pencils, please ensure they are #2 pencils only. Students will need to bring their own calculator.
For approved calculators, please visit:

Room Assignments
Room assignments for all 9th-11th grade students will be posted that morning in the main hall. Students will be assigned to individual rooms by alphabetical order. Our teachers and staff will be proctors and room monitors in each of the testing rooms that day.
If you have any questions prior to testing, please contact Mrs. Poole at annap@bvcs.org.
