Challenge Unhelpful Thoughts

When we are experiencing anxiety it is important to be aware of our THOUGHT PATTERNS. Our inaccurate or irrational thoughts are often what started or what is perpetuating our anxiety.

Here are a list of common negative thought patterns that we should try to recognize and then challenge - especially when we are experiencing anxiety:

  1. All-or-Nothing Thinking

  2. Overgeneralization

  3. Mental Filter

  4. Disqualifying the Positive

  5. Jumping to Conclusions

  6. Magnification (catastrophising) and Minimization

  7. Emotional Reasoning

  8. "Should" Statements

  9. Labelling/Mislabeling

  10. Personalization
