What is AVID?
AVID, or Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a proven national program designed to provide essential resources needed to prepare students for college and career success.
AVID is dedicated to fostering academic success for students at Bellflower Middle/High School, ensuring they have as many opportunities as possible available to them upon graduation.
Program Offerings
Curriculum
AVID provides a college preparatory curriculum that focuses on critical thinking, literacy, and math skills.
Teaching methods
AVID trains educators to use research-based strategies and curriculum.
Activities
AVID students participate in activities that focus on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading.
Tutoring
AVID students receive additional support through collaborative tutorial groups with peers and AVID-trained college tutors.
College preparation
AVID students learn about colleges and universities, including the application and financial aid processes.
Career exploration
AVID students explore career opportunities through curriculum, research, and guest speakers.
