Girls Basketball
The Lady Bucs had an amazing 2023-2024 season, led by Junior Captains Jules Fisher and Anna Clark. The Lady Bucs finished their season with a strong 16-4 season record and 6-2 record in the section. They finished the season as the 9-seed in the 3A WPIAL Championship Bracket, with their first game being on February 27 against Keystone Oaks.
Boys Basketball
The Bucs had a historic 2023-2024 season, led by Senior Captains Macky Bennis, Joey Discello, and Dylan McKallip. They finished their season as the 11-seed in the 3A WPIAL Championship Bracket, and reached the WPIAL finals at the Petersen Events Center down in Pittsburgh on March 1 where they sadly fell to Deer Lakes 55-49. The Bucs also hosted a home state playoff game against Bishop Guilfoyle on March 9.
Bocce
The Burrell Bocce Team had an undefeated 2023-2024 season where Team 2 claimed the Section Championship title led by coaches Mrs. Cress and Mr. Kaczanowicz. They earned the first seed in the playoffs at Plum High School where they placed 3rd.
Bowling
The 2023-2024 season for the Burrell Bucs Bowling Team was full of personal and team achievements. The Boys Team finished in 8th place out of 24 teams at the WPIBL Championships. Jacob Terranova made All Tournament Team - Highest Series (661) and Highest Game (246) out of 193 total boys. Brady Colgan and Leah McCandless represented Burrell at the WPIAL Championship. Leah won the Girls Single Title at AMF Noble Manor Lanes, earned also spot in the WPIBLA State Championships, and on December 7 bowled a perfect game of 300.
Gymnastics
The Lady Bucs Gymnastics team only had 4 gymnasts this season, but they all took on the competition as best as they could for most of the season since two of the gymnasts were down due to injury or illness. The 2 gymnasts remaining persevered even though they were outnumbered with people they had to compete against, and they both performed in all four of the events: bars, beam, floor, and vault. They qualified for WPIALS and are hopeful for a healthier season next year as all members will return to the team.
Hockey
The Bucs Hockey team achieved a strong winning record for the 2023-2024 season. Their team consists of several schools including Burrell, Highlands, Valley, Riverview, and Penn Hills. Led by Captain Johnny Lukac (as well as captains from other schools), the Bucs made it all the way to the PIHL Divison 2 Championship Game against Neshannock at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex where they unfortunately lost in heartbreaking fashion 6-5. Even though they didn't come out on top, they fought hard every moment of the season and achieved personal goals.
Swimming
Led by Senior Captains Anthony Roman, Morgan Swahn, and Chloe Walton, the Bucs' Boys and Girls Swim Team had many personal and team achievements this season. Senior Chloe Walton and Freshman Joey Roos qualified for WPIALS, with Chloe swimming in the 200 and the 100 Free, and with Joey swimming in 200 Free, 500 Free, and the 200 Individual Medley.
Boys Wrestling
After a 2 year drought of not winning the WPIALS, the Bucs were fired up and determined to bring the trophy back to Burrell. The Bucs achieved the second seed in WPIALS and made it all the way to the finals to rematch last year's finals matchup against Burgettstown, where the Bucs reclaimed their WPIAL title and trophy, winning in a dominating fashion of 41-20. Senior Cooper Hornack, Junior Luke Boylan, and Sophomores Julian Bertucci and Cam Baker all qualified for SW Regionals. Cooper and Cam had also qualified for states as well to represent Burrell.
Girls Wrestling
For the first time in Burrell Sports history, Girls' Wrestling was recognized as its own standalone sport. The team began with only 6 girls, but as the season progressed the team developed popularity and more girls joined the team. The captains for this team had changed every meet for this first season. On December 14, 2023, the Girls Wrestling Team had its first ever PIAA section meet against Kiski. The team had fought all the way to WPIALS with Freshman Ella Campbell moving onto regionals where she placed 4th.
