Q. What do I need to do to register my child?
A. To initiate the registration process, simply fill out the form available on our registration website to request the necessary documents. Subsequently, you'll receive the registration forms via Adobe email, which can be conveniently completed and submitted online. Following this step, schedule an appointment to finalize your registration at the Central Office using the provided link on our website or by contacting the Registration Secretary. Don't forget to email, upload, or bring along your child's birth certificate, vaccination records, and proof of residency. Q. Where is Central Office located?
A. Central Office is located around the left side of the high school building at door #12. The address is 1021 Puckety Church Road, Lower Burrell, PA 15068.
Q. I already have one child already attending school. Do I need to provide residency again?
A. Indeed, every new student must verify residency, regardless of whether older siblings are already enrolled in the Burrell School District.
Q. I am moving to another house in the district. How do I need to change my address?
A. You will need to complete the “A Change of Status” form and provide new residency documents: updated license, lease or deed, and a utility bill at the new address. Please call your child’s school for more information.
Q. What is the minimum age my child can start kindergarten?
A. All children must be age 5 on or before September 1st of their kindergarten year. All children must be age 6 on or before September 1st to start 1st grade. No Exceptions.
Q. My child has special needs. How do you handle that during registration?
A. As part of the registration forms, we ask if your child has special services or accommodations or will need special services or accommodations. We will then schedule your final registration appointment with our Director of Special Education to discuss what your child will need when he/she starts school.
Q. We are moving out of the area. How do I unenroll my child?
A. Please contact the secretary at your child’s school for further information. Most schools will have you complete a records request when enroll in the new school. The new school will send the request to our school for your child's records.
Q. How many schools do you have in your district?
A. We have four schools in total. Bon Air Elementary educates Kindergarten - 3rd grade, Stewart Elementary educates 4th grade - 5th grades, Huston Middle School educates 6th grade - 8th grade, and Burrell High School educates 9th grade - 12th grade.
Q. After I register, when will my child start?
A. The timing varies based on when you register. If you register for your child in the spring or summer, your child will start on the first day of school. For registrations during the school year, your child will typically begin within 5 days of registration. During this period, we'll collect previous school records, establish a schedule, and organize transportation. Rest assured, the school will promptly reach out to you with the specific start date.
Q. I registered my child for kindergarten. Now what?
A. The school will keep you informed about upcoming events, such as kindergarten screening, as well as provide you with details on summer programs, busing, and exciting information about the first day of school.
Q. Do you have full-day or half-day kindergarten?
A. We have full-day kindergarten and busing is available for all students in our school district.
Q. What age does school sports start?
A. Official school sports programs begin in 7th grade. For detailed information, we encourage you to explore our Athletic page on the school website. Additionally, for students in kindergarten through 6th grade, there are abundant opportunities to participate in sports through local leagues in our area.
