Due to the nature of the environment and the scale of the gathering, we maintain fairly firm boundaries around guest animals onsite, including emotional support animals (ESAs).
Fly Ranch can be an extremely rugged and overstimulating environment for dogs, including:
Heat, dust, and limited shade
Geothermal features and wildlife
Unpredictable sound and large numbers of participants moving through shared spaces at all hours
An increasingly family-friendly environment with more children on-site
In addition, we have unfortunately experienced several difficult situations involving guest dogs at past events. As a result, animals onsite are generally limited to:
Licensed service animals
Dogs belonging to core staff operating in specific roles
This policy is intended to support the safety and well-being of participants, children, staff, wildlife, and animals alike. In most cases, we genuinely believe Fly Ranch is not an ideal environment for guest dogs.
If you believe your situation falls into an exceptional category, please reach out with additional context so we can continue the conversation. (bwbsummit@burningman.org)
