Units:
Requirements
Daily: Students are expected to be on time with all the materials needed for the day. Instant activity, editing, and exit slips will be completed every day.
Weekly: Students will have a quiz every Friday based on the weeks skill reviews. Students will use Flocabulary to increase their vocabulary skills. Students will get new words every one to two weeks. (This is dependent on progress)
Homework: Homework is expected to be on time. If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to ask the teacher what was missed. If there were worksheets handed out, they will be in the folder on the bulletin board.
Projects: There will be projects throughout the year to complete. These will include creative writing and research projects based on books read in class. Students will be graded based on a given rubric for each project.
Homework: as per district policy, homework shall have a specific academic purpose and will be scored in the following manner:
Homework shall account for no more than 10% of a student’s grade calculation.
Homework will be given a grade of 0, 50, or 100 based solely on completion.
100% -attempted with full effort
50% - attempted, but not with effort
50% - assignment turned in one day late
0% - more than one day late.
Homework assignments that are graded for accuracy or long-term homework assignments (i.e. projects) will be included in the student’s developmental assessment grade.
Midterm and final exams may be cumulative or based on the latest unit only. If the student participates in class and completes homework, the student will be prepared for exams.
Grading Scale for the Self-Contained Classes
This grading system will assess the students in the self-contained classes while showing grades that adhere to IEPs. The “IEP Equivalent” section describes how the student is meeting the IEP goals in each subject area at the level that has been selected for each individual student (for example, 70% accuracy). The IEP progress pages of the IEP will be sent home as well to show the progress for each goal.
