About the Athletic Training Services BCIT Westampton's athletic trainer offers on-field care, injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation services for student-athletes who participate in any of our interscholastic athletic programs. From ice compression units to electrical stimulation, the athletic training facility is equipped with many treatment modalities and rehabilitation machines to help our injured athletes get back on the field, court or mat.
About the Athletic Training Staff Caitlin Hawco has been the athletic trainer at BCIT since December 2022. She graduated with her Bachelor's in Athletic Training from West Chester University in May 2014. She is a member of NATA, ATSNJ, BOC certified, CPR certified, and OSHA 10 certified.
Return to Play after an injury Please note that athletes who are injured should not return to sports until they are cleared to do so by their physician or by BCIT's athletic trainer. Those who see a physician must have written physician clearance to return to sports.
If you take your child to a doctor Please bring our Athlete Injury Referral form with you. This allows the doctor to indicate any treatment or rehabilitation that can be provided at school, and also to indicate return to play status. Please have the physician complete this form and then have the athlete return the form to the athletic training office.
Minor injuries that have been evaluated by the athletic training staff that do not require a physician evaluation need only to be cleared by the athletic trainer to return to play. Please note regarding concussions, we follow return to play guidelines as determined by our school policy and state law, based on the latest published guidelines. If your doctor indicates “no concussion” or a return to play procedure that differs from our school policy, it must be approved by our school physician.
Treatment and Rehabilitation Appointments Athletes who need routine taping or treatment before a practice or game may see the athletic trainer right after school. Those with more significant injuries and who are unable to participate in their sport are scheduled for treatment times that begin at 3pm. New injury evaluations (unless urgent) also take place beginning at 3pm. Students that need to be seen during the school day MUST send Ms. Hawco an email to schedule an appointment. This allows us to better handle the influx of athletes right after school who are trying to catch a bus or get to their practice or game on time. We ask that athletes stick to their appointment time as this helps to better manage the daily volume of athletes who need treatment.
Insurance BCIT provides insurance secondary to your personal insurance for injuries sustained during a school-sponsored athletic event or practice. You must submit all bills to your own insurance first, then unpaid bills to the school's insurance along with a claim form provided by the school. The injury must be reported to the coach and athletic trainer to be covered.
