Why Should I Join the BSU?

If you are considering joining Medtech's Black Student Union, I encourage you to watch this video. Here you will see many students explain their personal experience and motivations as BSU members!

What is a Black Student Union?

The Black Student Union (BSU) is an organization that advocates for the needs of students while empowering, teaching, discussing, and exploring the Black experience. BSU serves as a liaison between students of African descent and other administrators/groups inside and outside of our school.

Where did Black Student Unions originate?

The first Black Student Union was formed by Jimmy Garret and Jerry Vernado at San Francisco State University in 1967. This was following a Black Youth conference held in LA attended by the aforementioned students and many more black professors and students. Since then, BSU's across the country have been responsible for advancements and cultural awareness through their protests, strikes, etc that contributed to the academic experience for black students today!
