Scanning

Scanning Procedures

1) Obtain a scanner, the power cable, and the USB cable.

2) Safely plug in the USB and power cables:

Make sure they are not too far from the outlet or computer to trip someone or pull off the desk.

3) Turn on the scanner (on top) & Place original on the glass. Make sure art is flat against the glass. Align the ARROW to the BOTTOM LEFT of your image.

4) Open Image Capture on the iMac. It can be found in the LAUNCHPAD (Rocket) under OTHER. It's also in the Applications folder.

5) Click Overview first to get a preview of what the scanner "sees"

6) Select the area of the preview that you would like to scan.

7) Set the settings appropriate for your scan. Note the red circled items in the picture above.

a) Kind: Color? Black & White?

b) Greys? Use 256 Greys.

c) Resolution: 300 dpi for print & 72 dpi for web (unless you are going to enlarge the image).

d) Scan to: Where do you want it saved?

e) Name: Have it make sense!

f) Format: JPG (compressed) or TIF (uncompressed)
