PHS Learning Commons Library: Elevator Speech

PHSLCL/Media Center Infographic:

This year the PHSLCL began allowing students to check out individual MacBooks to use outside the Learning Commons Library. As you can see from the graph below, word of mouth marketing organically grew the program. This will continue to be a need until our school has a One-to-One devices in the classroom.

What is an Engaging Space?

An Engaging-space is a table-top sized activity that is nonlinear, nor time dependent and provides learning and collaborative opportunities for students beyond the traditional classroom and learning commons setting. Students explore ideas, concepts and interactions across content areas in unique ways. Due to the rigid structure of the a high school student’s day, Engaging Spaces allow for flexibility in the time it takes to participate and in the number of students that can collaborate. These activities have included assembling community learning puzzles, constructing three-dimensional buildings, exploring graphical representations of mathematical formulae to create art, showcasing a local author and designing and building bridges. All of these activities seek to engage students as life-long learners through integration of content, technologies and media.
