Our Goals
Our motto is "Dream It, Plan It, Do It!" Therefore, our goal is to help every student to dream big, formulate a plan, and then take real steps to reach that dream! We also work with students, teachers and families by providing services that will contibute to overall student growth and success. We want each and every one of our students to reach their full potential and have a clear vision for their adult life. We believe they can achieve anything with the right resources and the importance of goal setting and planning, therefore, we will walk beside them as they learn how to plan, apply, pay for, and thrive in post-secondary institutions!
Who We Serve!
We are currently serving 6th-12th grade students and families in the
traditional Burke County Public School System.
We work closely with multiple districts in Western NC, community partners, and Appalachian State University to make sure that students have the resources they need to be successful.

GEAR UP Coordinator
Kim Logan is the Coordinator for Table Rock Middle, Walter Johnson Middle, and Freedom High School. She attended UNC Greensboro for her undergraduate degree and App State for her Masters degree.
This year is her 9th year as a GEAR UP Coordinator. She loves helping students discover their potential and learn about college! She has 4 children and 4 grandchildren. 4 of her kids are alumni of Freedom High School. Her husband is a pastor at a local church. When not working, you can find Mrs. Logan loving on all of her grand babies.

Jenn Stevens
GEAR UP Coordinator
Jenn Stevens holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science and an undergraduate degree in Dance and Theatre Arts. Her professional background includes instructional work in dance, gymnastics, theatre arts and a broad range of K–12 curricular areas. In addition, she has served as an Academic Advisor for WPCC in the Career and College Promise program, a Librarian for Isothermal Community College and is involved in her family's non-profit organization, South Mountain Christian Youth Camp. Jenn is dedicated to empowering students. Supporting their academic and personal success continues to be the driving force of her work.

Isabel Jensen is a PROUD graduate of NC State University where she obtained her Bachelors Degree in Communication. This is her second year serving as a Burke County Schools GEAR UP Coordinator. Prior to GEAR UP, she also served as a Daycare Teacher at Ray Childers Elementary School and Hildebran Elementary School.

so much joy!

GEAR UP Administrative Assistant
Cameron Fisher is a native of Burke County, and has also served as the Office Administrator for the Morganton Children's Dental Center. This is her 8th year working with GEAR UP.
