The FAFSA is the Free Application For Student Aid. It is a form that you should complete every year for the next academic year. Based on your application the amount and type of aid that you can receive from colleges and universities is determined. This includes Grants, Scholarships, and Loans. 

The FAFSA opens every year for completion on October 1st. The sooner you complete your FAFSA the more aid you may receive. 

There are many types of scholarships available. 

National Scholarships are the most competitive. Where as local scholarships and business scholarships are not as competitive. 

The Community Foundation of Burke County is a good starting point for local scholarships.
