FAFSA is the Free Application For Student Aid. We encourage all students to complete the FAFSA. North Carolina Residents must also complete the NC Residency Determination.

Steps to take to get started:

1) Complete Residency Determination. This must be completed before you can submit an application for most, if not all NC colleges. Completing this successfully makes you eligible for the in-state tuition discount.

 2) Create an FSA ID. Want free money? Want to minimize student loan debt? Want to be eligible for scholarships? Then FILL OUT YOUR FAFSA. Even if you think you don't qualify for Financial Aid, universities and scholarship committees still need your FAFSA information to consider you eligible for scholarships.

The FAFSA form for the 2026-2027 school year is open! The sooner you complete FAFSA, the more money you can possibly receive.
