Information for Rising 9th Graders:

Please read the following for information regarding Visual Art at the high school: 

OPTION 1: Beginning Visual Art is a traditional arts class where we explore a variety of art media (paint, drawing, printmaking, sculpture etc), art history, arts based careers by working through the Artistic Thinking Process.

OPTION 2: Beginning Art- CRAFTS is a blend of making functional products (bookmarks, books, masks) and exploring art through different media and cultures. We will use materials including yarn, paint, clay, and upcycled materials to create crafts for ourselves and for a craft show at the end of the semester to raise money for new art supplies. This is less about traditional art skills (drawing and painting) and more about learning a process that can be repeated to make multiples of an item.

OPTION 3: THINK YOU HAVE THE SKILLS to SKIP BEGINNING ART/Crafts? 

Submit Google Slides with 

1) 3 recent artworks 

2) 3 sketchbook pages

3) why you feel you are ready to skip beginning art and move straight to the next level art class

4) a recommendation from your current art teacher 

Once you have that completed, share slides with _______________@burke.k12.nc.us

**Remember- if Visual Art is not your thing, you may choose a different Arts Elective! You must have ONE ARTS class in order to graduate- Art, Band, Chorus, OR Dance. Choose what most interests you!
