Chorus is a performance based class. Attendance for all Concerts and after school rehearsals is mandatory.
Students must always follow our BCPS, DHS, and Choral Code of Conduct during all performances and trips.
Formal concert attire is required for all formal concerts. Some concerts, such as our Spring Musical, are not considered formal and may be casual dress or costumes.
Field Trips, Special Events, and Festivals
To participate in DHS Chorus field trips, special events, or festivals (i.e. Carowinds Festival of Music, Mars Hill Chorus Festival, N.C. Honors Chorus, etc.) students must be enrolled in either Concert Choir or Chamber Choir for the entire school year (fall and spring semester). These events are very selective and will be limited to students who are enrolled in Chorus for the entire school year.
CHORAL ATTIRE
Choral Members are also responsible for providing their own concert attire. All students are expected to conform to the choir dress code during performances and when out in public at a choir event. You are part of a team, and should dress accordingly. All Students wear long, concert black.
If a student is not dressed according to guidelines, the director may remove that student from the performance. This will be considered an unexcused absence with point loss.
Required Formal Concert Attire:
SOLID BLACK dress shirt, blouse, sweater, or combination of solid black separates. No tank tops/sleeveless shirts. Shoulders must be covered.
SOLID BLACK pants, or modest skirt over black opaque tights/leggings. No jeans, sweatpants, etc. Black fabric should cover all of legs down to shoes.
SOLID BLACK socks or tights/leggings/stockings/hose.
SOLID BLACK closed-toe shoes with little or no heel. No athletic shoes or sandals; no clearly-visible stripes or markings.
Required Casual Concert Attire:
Dress shirt, polo shirt, blouse, sweater, official DHS Chorus T-shirt, or combination of separates. No tank tops/sleeveless shirts. Shoulders must be covered.
Dress pants, slacks, a modest skirt over tights/leggings, nice jeans. No rips or holes in jeans. No sweatpants. Fabric must cover legs all the way down to ankles.
Closed-toe shoes with little or no heel. No sandals.
All attire should be clean, wrinkle-free, and appropriate for professional settings.
Any student who fails to secure the required attire for concerts may be prohibited from performing, resulting in a corresponding lowering of performance and attendance grades.
