Philosophy of Education

As an educator I believe it is my job to educate and inspire young minds. I firmly believe each child deserves access to an equal education. Each student should receive the needed supports to be successful academically, behaviorally, and socially.

I believe developing personal relationships with students is key to their success. Students work and behave best when they know their teacher cares about them. As an educator I strive to develop strong personal relationships with each and every student.

Not only is developing relationships with students key, but so is developing a relationship with students’ parents/guardians. In any successful classroom there must be positive communication between the teacher and parents/guardians. As an educator I strive to develop relationships with parents/guardians to allow for positive communication.

I also believe it is important to develop strong relationships with colleagues. Fellow teachers provide support and understanding in ways others cannot. Developing positive relationships with colleagues leads to a fun, supportive, and positive work environment. As an educator I strive to develop strong, positive relationships with fellow educators.

Equally important to developing relationships with students, parents, and colleagues is academics. Learning content to prepare for the future is an anticipated outcome of school. Connecting core learning to life skills remains a job for teachers and I strive to connect learning to life. Also essential to academics is adapting instruction according to the needs of students. As an educator I strive to adapt my instruction to fit the needs of all my students.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is another key component of education. All students need to learn about emotions and how to develop effective coping strategies. In my classroom, I strive to integrate SEL into all subjects as well as explicitly teach and practice characteristics like teamwork, empathy, responsibility, and more.
