Welcome to 5th grade!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I start every year with telling my students a quote from one of my favorite books, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: "Every great wizard in history has started out as nothing more than what we are now, students. If they can do it, why not us?" Every person your child has, will, or is currently looking up to has been where your student is now, in a 5th grade classroom. I want your student to know that they can meet or even exceed their expectations. In my classroom, your student will experience moments of triumph and moments of growth. Together we will celebrate and work hard to make this a successful year!
Sincerely,
Kylie Perez

Unit 01: These United States: A Varied Landscape
During this unit, students learn about the physical geography of regions in the United States, identify economic and political regions in the United States, use maps to locate significant places in the United States, and use maps to examine settlement patterns in the United States. Additionally, students continue developing their spatial reasoning skills by constructing and interpreting maps.
Unit 01: Living a Literate Life
In Writing, students write to think and also to connect with an audience of their peers. Through writing to think, students pay attention to their thinking, their topics of interest, and their past and current writing experiences, habits, and routines. Students pay attention to the topics and ideas they want to explore more with their audiences. Students review the importance of and practice planning and drafting as part of the writing process. .
