Welcome to 5th grade!
Grading Policy
5th Grade
Our goal with any assignment, assessment, activity, or discussion in class is to determine if a student has mastered a specific skill. Not all students learn at the same pace or depth. We understand that some students may require more time to show what they know with a given skill. It is the reasoning that motivated us to create the following grading policy.
Weight of Assignments:
Tests, quizzes, and daily assignments are all weighted the same.
Make-up Work:
The amount of time given to complete make-up work will equal the number of days issued by a student (2 days missed=2 days to complete make-up work). Any work not received by this time will be counted as a zero and the grade may be improved under the “Correct and Return” guidelines (see below).
Extended time for extended absences will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Correct and Return:
Students will have the opportunity to correct any test or assignment.
For grades below a 70, the student may do corrections with the max score being up to a 70 if completed.
“Corrections” may be the same assignment or a new assignment that covers the same TEKS/standards.
Students will be given 3 days, from the day it is returned, to complete the C&R.
For assignments not completed/attempted, a zero will be given.
Parent/Guardian will be notified by phone in this instance.
“Correct and Return” (above) will apply in these instances.
Unit Assessments will be entered into the Skyward Gradebook as a “No Count”
These assessments are for the purpose of data collection and are used to drive instruction.
This allows for parents/guardians to see these results and to contact teachers in regards to questions/concerns.
Grades in Skyward
Zeros may be placed in the gradebook for an assignment that is not completed.
Progress report grades may be below a 50.
Six-weeks grades below a 50 will be bumped to a 50.
