Course Overview
There is a lot that will be covered within the courses that are offered here at BHS. We are currently offer both Agricultural Metal Tech courses as well as the Welding courses under the Manufacturing Cluster. The courses will cover many of the same skill sets, but with the new cluster we open many new doors as far as certifications and colleges. Some of these skills will be: safety, blueprinting, layout and fabrication, welding with multiple processes, power controls, and working knowledge of all the tools required within this job/ skill set. We will also have opportunities to compete at various levels such as FFA, Skills USA, Texas High School Welding Series, and scholarship/ prize events as well. I have the highest of hopes for this course and those that are in it. We hold our students to the highest of standards due to pride, yes, but we are in one of the most dangerous job types that there is. That said we have contracts that are in place to hold students to those standards and make sure that only those that are serious are in these classes. But that is enough of the serious stuff, so on a lighter note, there is truly no way to learn everything that there is in this career field. You can spend a lifetime learning new skills and that is what I love about this career, and I want these young men and women to share that joy and success. If there is anything at all you need of me, let me know and I will do whatever I need in my power to get the job done!
About me
My name is A.J. Lewis and I am the Lead Ag. Sciences Teacher/ welding instructor for BHS. I have been a certified welder and instructor for 15 years. I hold multiple certifications/ codes, am an ASNT Level 2"R" inspector, and hold an AAS of Welding Technologies. I myself am a graduate of BHS and then I joined the United States Army in December 2006. I left the Army in December of 2011 with an honorable discharge and decided to go to college to further my welding career. Since then I built a welding program at BHS that began in 2013, was a lead adjunct instructor at Vernon College (2013-2018), and most recently an instructor for Texas State Technical College @ West Texas (2019-2022). All of the roads taken have always lead me home, right back to BHS where it is apparent that God wants me to stay! I look forward to growing this program with my Ag Sciences Team and sending students into the workforce/college with a set of awesome skills and ready to take on life head on no matter where they want to go!

Resources
Below are a list of resource links for any information to questions you may have. Also be sure to head to Facebook and join the Burkburnett H.S. Welding group.
All, students that are enrolled in any of our classes out here in the ag sciences building will receive a copy of the contract and will need to read, sign, and return before continuing in the courses.
Here is a list of basic tools that anyone wanting to pursue this trade should have. This is not a requirement as of now. However it is highly recommended to have your own tool kit or to build one throughout your time in this program. At the very least I would say have your own helmet, shirt, gloves, and boots. There is a couple of places that will carry everything that you may need: TSC, Airgas, Atwoods, and Metroplex Welding Supply. We will have lockers for those that dont have a locking tool box as well as locker room for the competing kids or fabrication teams.
