ABOUT US

The ABCs of Youth Substance Use is an initiative to promote evidence-based approaches to youth substance-use education in BC schools.

Autonomy, Belonging and Competencies are important protective factors that promote youth wellbeing and prevent, delay and reduce substance-related harms.

Meet the Team

Our team works together to create a culture that is student-centred and dialogic. Combined we are working to destigmatize substance use by 'meeting people where they're are,' and recognizing critical, sector-specific expertise and the unique needs of students across BC. At our core, we know that student wellbeing is everyone's responsibility - and preventing and reducing substance-related harm is critical.

Youth Advisory Council

The ABCs Youth Advisory Council is led by McCreary Centre Society.

The youth advisors represent a diverse set of experiences and backgrounds, including Indigenous youth, 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, youth from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and youth from both urban and rural communities across the province.

The ABCs Youth Advisory Council will share their perspectives about substance use prevention and harm reduction in BC Schools. These insights will be reflected in the monthly digest, events and resources produced for The ABCs of Youth Substance Use

The information shared from this group is gathered in such a way as to foster a sense of safety and enable the youth participants to genuinely reflect and share their opinions on substance use education.
