The world we live in is changing and will continue to change, as are learners.
If our parents enroll and enter now in the modern class that we are in, they will experience severe culture shock.
Our parents, grandparents or aunts and uncles are the so -called 20th century learners. We all know that in the 20th century the focus of learning was entirely on the content, that students would learn new content with little regard of use, it's education was more focused on the individual learner combined with an occasional collaborative approach. They are seen as passive receivers of knowledge, the information was given to them by the instructors. That is the students in the 20th century.
Now let me introduce the 21st century learners. The 21st century has now met the technology and digital world where it will help not only the students that will help their studies but also the teachers to facilitate their teaching.
21st century learners are so far from 20th century learners where the education system is focused only on the teacher.
A 21st century education is about giving students the skills they need to succeed in this new world, and helping them grow the confidence to practice those skills. 21st century skills focus more on making sense of that information, sharing and using it in smart ways.
As a 21st century learner I believe that today's education is more beautiful and orderly compared to 20th century education. In 21st century education the student-teacher relationship is focused so they can now exchange information. In today's learners, they now have the communication skills, decision making skills, critical thinking, problem solving skills and collaboration because these skills are already taught to them.
Before, students could only learn from their teacher. But now, students can also learn with the help of technology and this technology can also affect the behavior of today’s youth.
If the world is changing, so is the way students learn. So let's just wait and see what more things will be added that will help students to learn.
Today, technology has significantly influenced the concept of education, the way in which teachers teach and students learn.
So as a future educator and while preparing myself to become a future educator of the 21st century learners, I'm gonna prepare myself and familiarize myself in using technology specially its the period of modernization for my teaching method to be more efficient and effective to my students.
In becoming a 21st century teacher I need to have and possesses this skills be an collaborator to my students and fellow co-workers, adaptor to every changes and behavior of my students, a risk taker, a learner because teacher I might learn from my students and I believe that teacher must always be open to acquiring new skills and knowledge, a good communicator for a better communication, a role model for my students, I must possess the characteristics of a teacher who can teach and express good values to her students. and people around me and a leader who can handle and come up with a solution.
When I was young I never dreamed of being a teacher when I grew up because I wanted to be a designer, but as I get older and gain enough knowledge, I have proven that being a teacher is a better profession, because teachers are one. In the reason why people learn, they are one of the reasons why there was a nurse, a doctor, a seaman, a scientist and many professional and non professional jobs. So now that I am close to the finish line of my studies, I promise that I will be a professional teacher with good characteristics that I can impart and teach to my students as well. Now that I am close to the real challenge of life I will use everything I have learned over 17 years to become a worthy teacher. The skills I have now like communication skills, problem-solving, decision making, critical thinking skills and many more, I will continue and do my best to develop and grow it more.
I will do everything to be the best version of myself.
