My name is Derrick Reed. I grew up an Air Force brat and lived all over as a kid, but I attended college and graduated from the University of Louisville.
While in college I met a wonderful Louisville lady and somehow convinced her to marry me and embark on a whirlwind tour of the world, from brat-to-servicemember, courtesy of the United States Army.
The Army sent us on many small adventures, and gave us the opportunity to live for years at a time in Kentucky, Belgium, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
As a child and as an adult, I have lived on military installations, attended and worked for military schools, and have always dreamed of settling down in one place to make friends, grow roots, and call home.
Twenty years later my wife and three kids "suggested" it might be a good time to retire my uniform and settle back home near her family in Louisville. The phrase "happy wife, happy life" ...how could I refuse?
We have lived happily in the area these past five years and feel completely at home in this wonderful community.
I am proud to return to the Bullitt East family this year as a second-year teacher and look forward to the life-long connections and impacts it will likely bring.
