Car Rider Changes
When: Beginning after winter break (Jan. 3rd)
What: Parents remain in your cars during drop off/pick up
Why: Student safety! We are making adjustments to drop off and pick up beginning after winter break. We would like parents and guardians to remain in your car when dropping off and picking up your child. If your child needs assistance with the door a staff member can help them. The intention is to improve safety and align ourselves with the procedures at the other elementary schools in the district.
How: Between now and winter break, work with your child on getting out of the car preferably on the "school" side of the drive independently and getting in the car on the right side of your car (either from the middle or closest sidewalk depending on which lane you are in). The majority of our students in grades K through 5 are very capable of doing this independently! If your child needs assistance, wave down a staff member (there are 2-3 outside at all times). As we learn which students need assistance we will help without you waving us down. Keep in mind that we rotate our supervision about every 6 weeks and the new staff member may have to learn who to help.
After winter break, we expect all parents/guardians to remain in their cars during drop off and pick up. Say your goodbyes as you pull into the school and are waiting in the line. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Shoe Drive
Nov. 27th - Dec 15th
Our 3rd grade students are holding a shoe drive to accompany an authentic learning experience around access to clean water. Students are asking for new or gently used shoes to be donated (via grocery bag) to your child's homeroom teacher. The grade level with the most shoes will receive additional wellness time on Dec. 18th! Shoes will be sent to WaterStep.

Students will go outside most days! Please dress students accordingly with hats, gloves, coats, and warm clothing. If you are in need of assistance with warm clothing, reach out to our Family Resource Center Coordinator, Mekayla.Belcher@bullitt.kyschools.us.
Students will remain inside
when the temperate chart indicates "danger" due to temperature (cold or heat)
when it is raining
when it is extremely muddy/standing water in play area
Staff will use caution when temperature is in the caution range (see below):
Winter: When it is 15-30 degrees our staff will use caution (adjust length of times students are outside, ensure students are dressed appropriately)
Summer: when temperature is in 90's our staff will use caution (adjust length of times students are outside, ensure students are dressed appropriately and have access to water bottles)
Golden Ticket Event
We are going to reward our students for meeting our CARE expectations with Golden Ticket events throughout the year! These CARE expectations extend beyond the classroom to wellness, the bus, the cafeteria and during dismissal. Our CARE expectations are as follows:
Care for Self For example: persist through challenges, attend to task, try our best, ask for help, make safe decisions, etc.
Care for Others For example: saying please & thank you, safe actions, respect others space, return books on time, refrain from interrupting, using appropriate/safe voice levels per activity (i.e. voice level 0 in the halls at all times), etc.
Care for our Space For example: pick up after myself and trash that I see instead of walking past it, returning items to their place, using restroom facilities correctly, being gentle with school items, closing doors gently, etc.
What is it? Students with a "Golden Ticket" are able to participate in our Golden Ticket Reward Events. We anticipate hosting these events approximately once a nine weeks. Our Caregivers will offer an an experience around cooking, yoga, puzzles, board games, chess, art, dance, cookie decorating, coding, origami, soccer, basketball, breakout games, jewelry making, rock painting, scrapbooking, minecraft, perler beads, comic book creators, Kona Ice, and many more.

Minority SBDM Elections
Special SBDM Parent Rep Nomination Notice
We are delighted to introduce the parent candidates for the 2023-24 special election for minority parent representation on our SBDM council:
Adrianna Covington
Statement: I would like to be a part of representation at Roby to help with inclusion of minority children also to help build a better understanding of different cultures and backgrounds. Having representation as a child helped with my self-esteem and believing I could be more than the stereotype I would see on media. As an Indigenous American Mother with family roots in Shepherdsville I feel like this is very important for the Roby Family.
The election will be held November 27th from 8am to 5pm in the front office of Roby Elementary. If you will have a child currently enrolled at Roby Elementary, you are eligible to vote in this election. This includes parents, stepparents, and foster parents. Legal guardians are also eligible to vote if the child lives in their home. We urge every parent to participate in this important decision about the future of our children’s school. Results will be announced on the school website and/or social media on the evening of November 28th.
Changes to Transportation
*****************************NOTICE***********************************
After winter break we will only accept handwritten notes sent in with students or the google form below for changes to transportation. We will no longer take changes to transportation in the form of emails to staff.
Why: We want to make sure that staff absences do not interfere with students safely transported home.
Where: The google form is always located at the top (as a button) of the newsletter! Change my child's PM transportation form.
