FAQ

Our Independent Study program provides:

Asynchronous Assignments: Correspond with what is being taught in class. All assignments are pushed out through Google Classroom. 

Meeting Times: I offer a daily virtual meeting option, but it is not required. A paper attendance log can be filled out instead to show proof of work each day.

Work Submission: All work is submitted through Google Classroom or Padlet. Ideally all work is submitted before students return to class, but the deadline is assigned based on the number of days on IS. For example, if out for 4 school days, students will have 4 extra school days to complete and return work.

Attendance: Students will be marked as present for days work and attendance log are completed and submitted. All other days would be marked as absent if students fail to complete work and/or submit attendance log.

K - 3rd students must have opportunities for synchronous opportunities to meet virtually for 15 minutes a day. During this session, your Independent Study teacher will answer any questions you or your student has about learning apps or assignments as well as teach a mini lesson on a topic recommended by your student's teacher or a lesson best taught live.

4th - 8th grade students have the opportunity to meet once a week for 15 minutes. During this session, your Independent Study teacher will review completed and/or missed work with your student as well as answer any questions that you or your student has.

If your student cannot meet, your Independent Study teacher will try to meet with your student the school day before you leave. While on your trip, your student must complete the attendance log to count for attendance requirements.

You can still apply for Independent Study and we will determine if we are able to assist you.

Ideally, Independent Study work is best completed each day so that your student is not behind when they return to class. However, you do have the same number of days as absent to complete your work. For example, if your student misses 5 days of school, they will have 5 school days to complete their work once they return to school.

Without participating in Independent Study your student will be marked as “absent-unexcused” for any such days and classroom work will not be provided. In the State of California, 3 unexcused absences is considered truant.

You would need to cancel your meals the Tuesday before the next week you ordered for.
