1. How do I transport my child’s exhibit?
We have ONE dolly that can be borrowed to transport your child’s exhibit to his or her table and that must be returned once the item is moved. We do not have people available to move your child’s items for them. In addition, you may not park alongside the red zone.
2. What time can I set-up my exhibit?
There are two sets of student showcases, sharing the same set of tables.
10:30-11:30am student exhibitors: Because tables won’t be set up until the morning of the event (May 17), we ask you not to set up your table until 10:00 am. Please start to clean up your area by 11:30 so that the next student can set up his/her table.
11:45-12:45 student exhibitors: Because there are students using your table before you are, please don’t expect to set up before 11:30. We kindly ask that you start to take your exhibit down at 12:45 so we can clear the area by 1:00pm.
PLEASE, PLEASE be respectful and considerate of each other, especially when transiting from participant to participant. This is time to exhibit and showcase your understanding of the BCS six pillars, especially respect, caring, and responsibility.
3. What size is my child’s table?
Since we will be using so many tables, students will be using a variety of table sizes. We cannot guarantee a specific size table.
4. My student’s project is not finished; what should we do?
Do not worry! A School Maker Faire is not about shiny, finished products but also the process of making something and what a student learned along the way. Your child can show off what he or she has finished so far, what they have learned while working on the project, and can even spend some time continuing to work on the project while at the MakerFaire (sharing with visitors to the table what he or she is doing).
5. What does my child talk about with table visitors?
Visitors to the table want to hear about the following:
What is the project?
How your child came up with the idea
What was the process your child went through to complete the project?
What did your child learn while doing the project?
Learning something new is also another reason why people will come to your child’s table and so, depending on his/her project, they may be asked to teach someone something new.
6. Do I need to supervise my child?
While you do not have to stay at the table with your child, there is an expectation that at least one student is at the table the time he/she is scheduled. Please review this expectation with your child. Also, please review your process with how you will touch base with your child at the end of their exhibition time so that he or she knows how to find you and is able to clean-up their table at the appropriate time. While we will have volunteers around to help with questions, they are not there to supervise your child nor transport your child’s materials.
7. What if my child needs to use the bathroom?
In your child’s check-in packet, there is a “I’ll be right back sign.” This should only be used for going to the restroom. Ideally there is always a student sitting at the table.
10. What should I do if my child needs wifi?
BCS has a guest wifi network that your child can use. Please ask for the login information at check-in. Please note that there is no guarantee about the strength of wifi.
11. My child is running something that needs electricity. Can they plug in?
Our students who are showcasing their projects will be on tables around the MPR. Thus, there is very little access to electrical outlets. Please make sure all devices and such are fully charged before the event.
