Extension

Extension...

Students will have time during their "Intervention/Extension/PE" class to work on assignments. Some students may find that they are able to complete all assignments before that period ends, and some might enjoy more to do in the afternoon/evening when school is over. Extension options will therefore be suggested as enrichment. Options will be posted here and in Google classrooms as well, and they are by no means a complete list. I will be adding to them regularly and welcome suggestions.

Students will be asked to let me know ahead of time what they will be working on as an extension (if possible). It will be stressed to them that while I encourage them to pursue these options, I will be expecting their best work and effort on regular assignments first. I can't wait to see what they come up with and am happy to get them started!

A Few Options to Start...

  • Writing Contests: Occasionally opportunities to participate in writing contests come up as well. Please check out this current contest for honoring the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

  • Independent Reading Option B: As mentioned already, students may choose a self-selected book for Option B of Independent Reading. They could choose to create book clubs with peers and meet to read/discuss in a break-out during "Int/Ext/PE" class. Although the requirement is to have a "book talk" with me when finished, they could also get creative with many different projects for the book (group or individual). *If students need access to books, please have them let me know.

  • Create a Website: Students can create their own website in Google or using code! It can be kept private, shared with selected people, or made public. They can make it about themselves, their interests, or even create a future business/product! Lots of possibilities :)

  • How-To Videos: Students can use screen recording apps (I will introduce these soon) to create support videos to help peers (and even teachers!) with new programs and concepts taught in class. I will post the videos in our classrooms for reference as needed. They can even take it a step further and record videos for art projects, coding, site building, etc.

  • Creative Writing: Students can write plays (and design costumes & props!), create comic books, write and illustrate a children's book, or write short stories.

  • Community Involvement: Students can participate in Community Citizenship Club meetings and join us in finding ways to support our school and local communities.

  • Practice of Skills & Art: There are opportunities to practice essential skills such as typing programs and instructional videos/ideas for art projects.
